Short answer: the quickest Christmas look for a Tesla is on the screen: put a festive custom wrap on the car's display, set a sleigh-bell lock sound, and run a light show to a Christmas song you own. All three load from a phone or a USB drive in a few minutes, none of them touches the paint, and you can switch back in January.
Below are prompts for making a Christmas wrap, where to find free winter designs, the holiday lock sounds, and how to turn a carol into a light show.
Christmas wraps to download
The community gallery is where owners share their designs, free to download. When this was written in late October 2026 it had winter designs, with snowflakes, ice and snowy mountains, but no Christmas ones yet: search the gallery for "snow" for those, and check the Christmas search again in December as owners publish.
Every design is drawn on one model's template, so check the model named on the card before you download. A design made for another car lands on the wrong panels. If you like one made for a different model, open it and reuse its prompt with your car selected: every community page shows the prompt behind the design.
Eight Christmas prompts to make your own
Describe a finish in the studio and it's painted straight onto your model's template. These are written to be pasted as they are, then tweaked:
| Look | Prompt to paste |
|---|---|
| Candy cane | glossy white base with bold red candy-cane stripes wrapping diagonally around the body, a thin gold pinstripe along the sills |
| Ugly sweater | knitted red and green Christmas jumper pattern with white snowflakes and reindeer in rows, matte finish |
| Snowfall | deep midnight blue fading to icy white at the rear, large soft snowflakes drifting across the doors |
| Gift wrap | glossy red with a wide gold ribbon running over the hood and roof, a big bow on the hood |
| Gingerbread | warm gingerbread brown with white icing swirls along the panel edges and small gumdrop accents |
| Festive stealth | satin black with a thin metallic gold beltline stripe and tiny holly leaves near the mirrors |
| Northern lights | dark navy base with green and violet aurora ribbons flowing from front to back |
| Pine forest | matte forest green with silhouetted pine trees along the sills and a dusting of snow on the roof |
Original motifs (stripes, snowflakes, holly, ribbons) come out more reliably than named characters, and a design that's entirely yours is one you can share in the gallery. On the 2025+ Model Y and Model Y L, start any fade behind the front wheel so the light bar across the nose doesn't cut it in two. More on writing prompts in wrap design prompts that work.
Your first wrap is free. After that, credit packs start at $2.99, credits never expire, and no subscription is needed.
Put it on the car
On vehicle software 2026.26 or newer with the Tesla app 4.59.0 or newer, send it from your phone: in the app, open Creations → Wrap (a Wraps tab on older vehicles), tap Upload, pick the image and choose Upload & Apply Wrap. The phone upload walkthrough shows it in 35 seconds.
On older software, copy the same PNG into a folder named Wraps on a USB drive and pick it from Toybox → Paint Shop → Wraps. The car keeps up to 10 wraps from the app and 10 from USB, so your everyday design stays put for January.
If it doesn't show up, it's almost always the file: the troubleshooting guide has the seven fixes.
A holiday lock sound
A wrap on the screen is mostly for you. The lock sound is what the street hears.
Sleigh bells, free. The Spooky & Seasonal shelf has sleigh-bell and jingle-bell clips alongside its Halloween creaks and cackles, already trimmed and converted to the format the car needs. Save your pick as LockChime.wav in the root of the USB drive, then turn it on under Toybox → Boombox → Lock Sound → USB.
Say something festive. The AI lock sound generator turns a short phrase into a lock sound in a voice you describe: "Merry Christmas, see you soon!" as a jolly, booming old man, or "The elves are watching" as a sleepy whisper. Describe the voice rather than naming a character; it won't imitate real people or named characters. It costs one credit, and the sound stays private unless you choose to share it.
The rules for lock sounds, and why some older cars can't play them, are in how to change your Tesla lock sound.
A Christmas light show
A light show plays a song through the cabin speakers while the lights (and, if you want, the mirrors, windows and doors) move in time. It's the one part of a Christmas setup that people stop to watch.
- Make one from your own song. The light show maker listens to a song you own (MP3, WAV or M4A; streaming tracks are copy-protected and won't work) and choreographs the car to its beat. You download a ready-made
LightShowfolder for a USB drive. - Or start from Tesla's own example. Tesla's light show repository includes an example show set to "Auld Lang Syne", which is about right for New Year's Eve.
Copy the folder to a USB drive with no TeslaCam folder on it, then run the show from Toybox → Light Show while parked. The full set of file rules is in how to make a Tesla light show from any song.
Coming from Halloween?
If your car is still wearing pumpkins, the swap takes a minute: pick your everyday wrap in Paint Shop, or upload the Christmas one over it. The Halloween ideas are still there for next October.
Want it on the real car?
A full Christmas vinyl wrap for six weeks is hard to justify. A printed hood, roof or mirror caps can go on for the season and come off afterwards, and partial wraps covers which combinations look intentional. Either way, live with the design on the screen first. It's the cheapest full-size mock-up you'll ever get.
